Enclosure 3.

199

Hon. Colonial Secretary,

During the three years that Dr. Lindsay Woods has

been in Hongkong his work has consisted very largely in the medical examination of the passengers and crews of ships, and in dealing with quarantine and such questions as arise in connection with the work of the Health Officer of the Port. Dr. Woods has al- -ways discharged these duties in a thoroughly satisfactory manner.

He has also been engaged in examining emigrants previous to their departure for evidences of disease or ill-health which would render them undesirable in the countries to which they proposed to go. In this way he has done a good deal of work on the diagnosis and treatment of the "hookworm" parasite.

His inclinations are for work associated with questions of the Public Health, but, in my opinion, Dr. Woods is a satisfactory candidate for an appointment in the general medical

service of the Colonies.

14th. May, 1915.

(sd.) J. T. C. Johnson,

P.C.M.O.
